Search Wilson County Court Records Online
Wilson County court records start with the North Carolina eCourts Portal, not a county-operated case database. Wilson County joined eCourts with Track 8, so Portal is the public path for Smart Search case information, hearing dates, payments, and judgment search. Smart Search is the case lookup tool. Search Hearings is the docket and court-date tool. Payment search is separate and supports eligible criminal, infraction, probation, and parole matters.
Portal search works best when the user knows a case number, record number, or party name. For a name search, use the Last, First Middle Suffix format shown by Portal. For Wilson-only results, open the advanced filters and choose Wilson County under location. Portal requires JavaScript and cookies, and users may see a CAPTCHA about every ten minutes. Case-specific help goes to the clerk in the county where the case is assigned.
- Open the North Carolina eCourts Portal and choose Smart Search for case records.
- Enter a record number or a party name in the required last-name-first format.
- Open Advanced Filtering Options and filter the location to Wilson County.
- Use case type, case status, file-date, party, date-of-birth, or booking-related filters when those details are known.
- Use Search Hearings for court dates and the separate judgment index for judgment searches.
- Contact the Wilson County Clerk of Superior Court when Portal conflicts with a paper file or when a certified copy is needed.

The Portal home matters because it separates Smart Search, hearing search, payments, and judgment search before the user enters a Wilson County court records query.
Wilson County Court Records Search Fields
Smart Search exposes both quick search and advanced filters. The basic search field accepts a record number or a name. Wildcards have minimum character rules. Case-number wildcard searches need at least four characters. Party-name wildcard searches need at least three last-name characters and at least one first-name character before the asterisk. Business and nickname wildcard searches need four characters plus the asterisk.

Types of Wilson County Court Records
Wilson County court records include files from District Court, Superior Court, magistrate matters, special proceedings, estates, and clerk-maintained judgment records. North Carolina has no county-run local court system, so even courthouse records in Wilson are part of the state General Court of Justice. District Court handles misdemeanors, infractions, many traffic matters, juvenile matters, family cases, small claims appeals, and magistrate matters. Superior Court handles felonies, higher-value civil cases, and appeals from District Court misdemeanors and infractions.
The Clerk of Superior Court keeps court files, criminal records, civil case files, estates and special proceedings, judgments, liens, foreclosures, evictions, divorce judgments, audio recording requests, and court-copy requests. Deeds, birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, and most land records go to the Register of Deeds instead. That routing distinction prevents a common mistake: Wilson County court records are searched through Judicial Branch and clerk channels, while vital and deed records are not court files.

What Wilson County Court Records Show
A Wilson County case record is usually a mix of index data, docket activity, hearing details, party names, financial entries, and court orders. Portal may display case information and some records in eCourts counties, but the paper file remains important for older records, full document review, certification, and records not viewable online. The full case file is held in the county where the case is located.

Public Access to Wilson County Court Records
North Carolina court-file access is centered on the clerk. N.C.G.S. 7A-109 says clerks maintain records, files, dockets, and indexes, and those records are open for public inspection during regular office hours unless a law says otherwise. The North Carolina Public Records Act governs many non-court agency records, but court case files have their own clerk-centered access route.

Civil, special proceeding, and estates information can also be accessed on clerk terminals. Paper case files are viewed at the clerk's office in the county where the case is filed. Copies may be made for a fee, and certified copies must come from the clerk.

Note: Portal is useful for lookup, but certified copies and background-check-quality searches still route through the Wilson County clerk.
Wilson County Court Records Copies and RPA
Copy fees and bulk data access are different services. For clerk copies, the research file lists $2 for the first page and $0.25 for each additional page, with $3 for a certificate under seal and $10 for exemplification. A single-county criminal record search through the Clerk of Superior Court uses AOC-CR-314 and is listed at $25. NCAOC public-record copies are listed at $0.25 per page, but NCAOC cannot certify case documents.

Organizations that need repeated statewide data access may use the Remote Public Access Program. RPA covers statewide criminal and civil case information in all 100 counties and is fee-based. It is not the same as a one-time Wilson County clerk copy request.

Restricted Wilson County Court Records
Not every Wilson County court record is public. Juvenile records are restricted by N.C.G.S. 7B-3000 and are withheld from public inspection except by court order or specific statutory access. Adoption files are confidential. Mental health and involuntary commitment information can be confidential. Sealed or expunged criminal records should not appear as ordinary public case records.
Expunction is a court process, not a simple database edit. A person first identifies the case number, charge, disposition date, and county. The correct AOC petition form then depends on the statutory category. Dismissed charges, not-guilty findings, and certain convictions may qualify under specific statutes. Some qualifying dismissed or not-guilty charges after December 1, 2021 may be automatically expunged after the statutory waiting period, but most adult records require a petition and order.
Protected data can also be redacted inside otherwise public files. Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, minor names, and safety-sensitive information should not be treated as public lookup data just because the case itself is public. When a Portal result appears incomplete, the missing detail may be an access limit rather than an error.
Wilson County Court Records at the Clerk
The Wilson County Clerk of Superior Court is the local office for case files, paper review, certified copies, criminal record searches, and questions about Wilson case records. The courthouse also routes civil, criminal, estates, special proceedings, magistrate, trial coordinator, and district attorney contacts through the Judicial Branch contact directory. Mail payments for eligible cases go to the clerk by money order or certified check only.
